Remember that Texas requirement that homeschoolers must teach citizenship?
The State Bar of Texas has several excellent resource websites for educators. With President’s Day around the corner, the Vote for Me! site comes in handy. This website has short little bios of famous citizens, including George Washington and Abe Lincoln on the Presidents Day link on the Start Here page. Coloring pages of George and Abe can be found on the Teacher Resources page. You can also download and print copies of the bios in cartoon format from this page. However, the State Bar will send one hard copy per teacher of the full color book (in English and Spanish) if you request it.
The State Bar also has a website of civics resources for middle school and high school students at Oyes, Oyes, Oh Yay!
And another website, Law-related Education Resources, with TEKS aligned lesson plans per grade, videos and games. We will be using the games resources, for sure! My kindergarten student can use the practice identifying US symbols and getting those pledges straight.
Justiceville USA is another game site they sponsor geared toward elementary and secondary citizenship TEKS, as well as geography and government.
Did I mention that all of these resources are FREE?
